Information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment: Domestic and Export Coffee Prices Rebound Strongly After the U.S. Announces a Temporary Suspension of Tariffs

According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, domestic and export coffee prices have strongly rebounded after the U.S. announced a temporary suspension of countervailing tariffs on its trade partners, including Vietnam.

Earlier, in early April, after the tariff announcement, coffee prices in the Central Highlands dropped from 132,000 VND/kg to 118,000 VND/kg. On the export market, coffee prices also plummeted, falling by 1,251 USD/ton and 2,356 USD/ton for Robusta and Arabica coffee, respectively, from their peak levels.

However, since April 10, right after the U.S. announced the 90-day suspension of tariffs, coffee prices have bounced back. In provinces like Dak Lak, Gia Lai, and Lam Dong in the Central Highlands, coffee prices have recovered to 132,000 VND/kg, returning to the level before the tariff news was announced. On the London and New York exchanges, Vietnam’s export coffee prices have also risen continuously and are now approaching their previous peak levels.

However, according to experts, the main reason for the recovery of coffee prices is not due to supply and demand, but rather the weakening of the USD. This has caused financial investors to lose confidence in the USD and shift their focus to commodities traded in this currency, including coffee.

In Vietnam, the rise of the USD to over 26,000 VND has also contributed to the increase in domestic coffee prices.

According to the General Department of Customs (Ministry of Finance), in the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam’s coffee exports reached 2.8 billion USD, a 45.8% increase despite a decrease in production, while seafood exports amounted to 2.3 billion USD, an increase of 19.2%. For the first time, coffee has surpassed seafood in export value, only behind wood in the group of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products.
